Why should I use weights?
Over the years we've had a lot of mixed messaging in the fitness world about working with weights and resistance. Many students have asked "Won't I bulk up if I use weights?" The simple answer to a complex question is no, at least not with the size of weights we are using (yup even those 20 lb dumbbells). In general adding resistance to your training will ONLY give you incredible results in terms of strength, muscle tone, bone density (weight lifting is one of the only ways to increase and maintain bone density as we age) increase metabolic rate, and give you the best bang for your buck in terms of 45 minutes spent in a studio. To put it simply, you are not going to bulk up, you are not lifting massive weights for 3 rep max performance. Our high repetition, lighter weight sequencing WILL make you stronger in all the ways you are looking for.
