How do I improve my mental health?

Your mental health matters. Read that again. Maybe twice.

No doubt you show up to your mat space to do something for your body, and maybe also a little something for your mind. Perhaps the mental side of your practice is far more important to you than the physical. We show up to our mats for different reasons, but how do we take care of ourselves in the 23 hours per day we aren't in a yoga class? Here are some of our favorite tips for caring for our emotional and mental bodies:

  • Ask yourself, am I doing something because "I should" or because "I want", if the answer is the former, reexamine why you are making the choice to move forward and see if you can't integrate more "I want" into it.

  • Set boundaries.

  • Don't be afraid to say no.

  • Find a supportive community.

  • Ask yourself "How am I feeling?" - We often ask this of others, but very infrequently of ourselves.

  • Nourish your mind and your heart, indulge in things that those aspects of yourself love and desire deeply.

  • Take a break, it's ok to step away and let yourself recharge.

FlowFit believes that a supportive community helps us build and commit to healthier habits. Meet our incredible instructors and try your first class FREE!
